According to Triangle Business Journal, Pittsboro could soon welcome some of the nation’s most recognized retail brands. Developers Rehab and Yezen Hamad of Triland Commercial, based in Cary, are working to bring Target, Publix, Home Depot, or Harris Teeter to eastern Chatham County — all of which would be new additions to the growing Pittsboro market.
As reported by TBJ’s Ben Tobin, the developers recently closed on a 30-acre property at 1700 Hillsboro Street for approximately $5 million, with plans to develop the site into a mixed-use project known as Cooper’s Ridge. Located just south of Highway 64 between downtown Pittsboro and Chatham Park, the project is expected to feature a major anchor store alongside residential, office, and retail outparcels.
The Pittsboro Board of Commissioners approved a rezoning for the property earlier this year, paving the way for large-scale commercial use. The proposed anchor tenant could occupy up to 150,000 square feet, with site work anticipated to begin within the next 18 months depending on utility capacity.
“We think those stores would be an ideal use for the area,” Hamad told Triangle Business Journal, noting that Pittsboro’s continued growth and proximity to Chatham Park make it a prime location for national retailers seeking new markets.
This project adds to the wave of commercial development reshaping Chatham County, as more investors and developers look to serve the region’s expanding residential base and workforce population.
